In the main, our beef comes from our own farm at Edinvale where it is born and raised. The animals supplied to Macbeth’s from the farm are Highland, Aberdeen Angus or Shorthorn Cross cattle, all traditional Scottish native breeds. They are all grass fed during the summer months in open pasture and during the winter are only fed on silage or hay from our own farms with a little barley or beat pulp to supplement the diet.
We do not use compound feeds or growth promoters – ever!! Unlike a lot of butchers today, we mature our beef on the bone for a minimum of 21 days. The result is a tender and well marbled meat from ethically reared cattle – the ultimate in happy cows!!
Where for whatever reason Edinvale is not able to supply our own cattle, we only source from local producers with the same ethos as ourselves. With the UK traceability scheme we can track an animal right back to its farm of origin, ensuring that it is only of the highest standard.
